OFFICE PLANTS

Video, Installation

2019

Plants might often seem static and object-like to us as our lives play out on different timescales. OFFICE PLANTS makes use of existing video footage that covers large time spans, in this case popular long-term TV shows. The selected productions showcase office interiors that also include houseplants used for decorative purposes. Machine learning methods based on artificial neural networks are used to detect scenes involving potted plants while processing large quantities of the given video material. Selected scenes are compiled into a time-lapse movie that documents plant presence over a longer period of time.
